A hot dog is not a taco, but both hot dogs and tacos are sandwiches.

if definitions and differences don’t matt er...sure. Its food inside of other food and open on one side. Hot take - Taco’s are pita’s

i would say that a sandwich is something in between two pieces of bread (or at least between two things to keep your hands clean) , so neither are a sandwich. hotdogs and tacos are not sandwiches. They could be subs.

Tacos are calzones

Soft taco = sandwich (if a wrap is a sandwich so is a soft taco)
Hard taco = handheld nachos
Change my mind.

Large if factual.

The Washington Post definition is clearly flawed if they came up with this classification. They lost decades of hard-won credibility with this one.

i misse d that one. now my post doesn’t seem so exciting.

Th ere is no such thing as a hard taco

Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way. I’m just mystified as to why The Takeout cares so much. Can’t a hot dog just be a hot dog?

yes, unless you accidently rip the spine of the bread in two while serving it, then it would be a sandwich.......

Eh, you could sell me on a burrito or enchilada being a sandwich, if wrap = sandwich, but a soft taco? Not sure.

It all depend on what your definition of “ is” is™.

But a hotdog is a hotdog, a taco is a taco, a sandwich is a sandwich, etc... this whole, ‘is a hotdog a sandwich’ thing, NO IT’S NOT!!!!
A hotdog is a sausage in a bun cut length ways vertically.
A sandwich is two ‘slices’ of a larger bun, with filling between the two slices.
A van is an automobile like a car, but isn’t a car.
Ergo, just because a hotdog entails a bread based product, does not make it a sandwich.

Pizza is an open-face sandwich, by that logic.

Yes I know it is an open-face sandwich

I agree completely, though I will point out the existence of the New England-style bun :

Still not a sandwich, mind you, but an exception to your second point none the less.

chips and cheese equal a sandwich? I don’t think so.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 17:43 |

You should think so, because it’s true

Uh, a hot dog is most certainly not a sandwich. That requires bread. A hotdog is just a stick of meat.
WHAT?!?!?!? TELL ME THIS ISN’T THE TIME FOR PEDANTRY, I DARE YOU
12/18/2018 at 20:12 |

Well no, it isn’t, but if you were to consider a wrap a sandwich, then it would follow an enchilada
or burrito
would be one too.

I disagree... structurally it may be similar but the evolution path is entirely different. It’s like saying a bat is a bird.
